John Lewis Christmas decoration trends for 2023 revealed

While Christmas might feel like a long way away yet, John Lewis has just revealed its key festive decoration trends for 2023, so there's plenty of time to get planning ahead of the festive season.

This year, there are a wide range of themes from the traditional to futuristic, and regal to retro - plus everything in between.

John Lewis' Lead Christmas Buyer, Lisa Cherry said in a release that this year's themes center around "the magic of nostalgia and the enchantment of Christmas,” with the design team taking inspiration “from our archives, giving treasured vintage prints a new lease of life.”

While it might seem early to be thinking about the most wonderful time of the year, John Lewis revealed that it has saw sales of baubles and Christmas trees in 2022 triple in comparison to the same time the year before. The retailer also recently revealed its top toy predictions for 2023, some of which are already available to buy now.

So, if you're already looking ahead and wondering how to transform your home into a winter wonderland this year, then look no further, as the department store has dreamt up six Christmas decorating themes for 2023.

Here are John Lewis' key Christmas decoration themes for 2023 to inspire your interior decor designs...

This year's Polar Planet theme has a distinct Scandi feel about it. Cosy, calming neutral tones and natural-feeling materials are incorporated into the accessories, such as wood and faux foliage.

This theme features a warming colour palette of more traditional red and green tones. Ideal for a country or cottage style set up, or for anyone who prefers classic decor.

At the other end of the spectrum, the Rainbow Time Capsule trend embraces bold tones and retro materials. Shimmering baubles come in a range of textures including shiny balloon-style pieces, rough glitter and tactile satin.

Another far-out trend this year is what John Lewis is describing as 'Beyond'. The futuristic theme embraces space and technology, including decorations in the shape of robots and those featuring star signs.

Another more classic look, the Royal Fairytale trend embraces regal emblems such as lions and elephants. In terms of its colour palette, expect jewel tones and plenty of gold.
